Biobanking, Data and ELSI

We address topics related to biobanking, ELSI questions, and biodata management as a basis for molecular epidemiology.

We address topics related to biobanking, ELSI questions, and biodata management as a basis for molecular epidemiology.

About our Research

Our research group consists of experts in all topics related to biobanking – such as ELSI (ethical, legal and social issues), biosample acquisition, processing and storage, data management and access to biosamples.

Quality management and data and quality standards are important aspects in all of these topics. Therefore, we are partner in a number of biobanking projects.

Our Projects

Infrastructure Bioresources, Biodata & Digital Health | Unit Biobanking

We are part of the Infrastructure Bioresources, Biodata & Digital Health of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF). The infrastructure implements the IT platform for DZIF and we are responsible for the DZIF data and tools hub and the central biosample registry (ZBR)

Ethics Coordination

We are part of the Clinical Research Platform (CRP) of the DZHK, coordinate ethical topics regarding overarching data and biosample use and work closely together with the CRP-partners as well as the studies, registries and cohorts. We check study and patient documents for compatibility with the IT system of the CRP and the follow-up processes of the DZHK to enable subsequent use of the data and biosamples for research questions that go beyond the actual study objective.

German Biobank Alliance / Joint Biobank Munich

Together with the biobanks of the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich and the Technical University of Munich we form the Joint Biobank Munich (JBM) and are partner in the German Biobank Alliance (GBA). JBM serves as network for joint projects of the Munich partners with relation to biobanking.

NUM / NAPKON

We are part of the infrastructure NUKLEUS (NUM Clinical Epidemiology and Study Platform) within NUM (Netzwerk Universitätsmedizin), where we lead and colead two work packages, ethics coordination (EC) and biosample core unit (BCU). In NAPKON (Nationales Pandemie Kohorten Netz) we lead the work package SAPCRiN – sample analysis for long covid research.
