Research interests:

I am interested in the adaptive mechanisms that contribute to the beneficial effects of physical exercise in preventing and treating insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders. One focus of my research is the adaptation of the liver as a key regulator of lipid and glucose homeostasis to acute exercise and training. In addition, I study lipid patterns and fluxes in individual tissues and organelles and how they respond to different metabolic challenges.
Our aim is to improve our understanding of how the body can handle excess lipids in a beneficial or neutral way and to identify the mechanisms that take over when lipotoxicity prevails.
My research involves a range of biochemical techniques, animal models and cell culture systems, and
metabolomics and lipidomics methods.
