Dr. Alesia Walker
Senior Scientist at the Research Unit Analytical BiogeochemistryResearch Area
Alesia Walker’s research focuses primarily on non-targeted metabolomics. She uses LC-coupled high-resolution mass spectrometry to study host-microbiota interactions, with an emphasis on diet-related metabolic disorders and inflammatory bowel diseases. By working with large population cohorts, Alesia enhances the statistical power and clinical relevance of her findings. Her work in developing analytical methodologies, both on a global scale and with a focus on specific metabolite classes or lipids, aims to better understand how microbial metabolites affect host health. This often leads to the discovery of previously unknown metabolites.
In addition to providing metabolomics expertise and high-quality data to collaborative research partners and the scientific community, Alesia also shares her knowledge with the next generation of researchers.
