Non-Targeted Metabolomics

Metabolomics Service

Non-targeted metabolomics aims to reliably identify and profile small molecule biomarkers characteristic for a particular physiological state in response to internal or external perturbations. Detection of wide range metabolites that includes amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, energy metabolism, nucleotides, cofactors and vitamins, and xenobiotic in various biological matrices is achieved by utilizing ExionLC high performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) coupled to SCIEX ZenoTOF 7600 Mass Spectrometry (MS) System. Separation is currently achieved on a reversed-phase column. A method for analysis of the polar metabolites is currently under development. Liquid sample is handled by using Hamilton Microlab Star robot. Identification of the small molecule metabolites is done by matching the MS- and MS/MS-spectra, and chromatographic data to the MPC In-house database library. Further specialized data analysis using advanced data analytical approaches (e.g. molecular networking or in-silico predictions) are available upon request.

Portfolio:

Types of biological matrices: biological fluids (including plasma, serum, urine), tissues (including liver, muscle, white and brown adipose, kidney, heart, lung, brain), fecal, cell culture.

 Amount of sample required:

  • Biological liquid sample: minimum of 150 µL, preferably more
  • Tissue and feces samples: 30 - 50 mg
  • Cell samples: ~ 1 million cells/mL lysate

Type of data provided: list of annotated (known) and unknown metabolites including their, m/z, retention time and ion counts data.

We use the ilab Core Management system to book services by internal and external users.
