The Jena Experiment

The Jena Experiment forms the basis for the DFG funded Research Unit  FOR5000 and is a long-term ecological study based in Jena Germany, focusing on the relationship between plant biodiversity and ecosystem function in a grassland ecosystem. In this framework we try to understand the interactions of plant biodiversity and soil microbiome functionality as well as plant-microbe interactions and how this mitigates drought resistance. Therefore, we identify, isolate and characterize drought resistant bacteria from differently diverse grassland plots.
