Sale of Personal Radiation Dosimeter Facility Finalized

Effective on April 1, 2020, the Personal Radiation Dosimeter facility (Auswertestelle – AWST) is transferred to Mirion. The sale of AWST is now finalized. From now on it operates under its new name “Mirion Technologies (AWST) GmbH”.

In summer 2018, the Supervisory Board of Helmholtz Zentrum München approved to initiate the process of selling the AWST. Following a bidding process, Mirion was awarded the contract. Mirion is one of the two world's leading companies in dosimetry services and the number one global leader in radiation measurement technology.

AWST was integrated into the predecessor of the Center, the Society for Radiation Research (Gesellschaft für Strahlenforschung - GSF), in 1969. AWST is an officially authorized evaluation facility and, among other things, responsible for determining personal radiation doses and monitoring compliance with threshold values. Its approx. 45 employees are responsible for about 175,000 persons occupationally exposed to radiation in the federal states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. AWST determines approx. 1.8 million personal doses each year and is the largest evaluation facility of its kind in Europe. In recent years, AWST, in its capacity as a successful business unit of the Center, has contributed greatly to the success of Helmholtz Zentrum München.

The management board would like to take this opportunity to thank all employees of AWST for their commitment and valuable work over the past years and decades. In addition, we would also like to thank all employees who have contributed with their relentless commitment over the past weeks and months to successfully transfer operations on schedule.
