Adipose Tissue Microarchitecture and Metabolism / Massier-Lab

White adipose tissue plays a pivotal role in energy storage, metabolic regulation, and endocrine signaling. In obesity, white adipose tissue undergoes significant alterations in its cellular composition, which contributes to the development of various pathophysiological conditions, including chronic inflammation, impaired angiogenesis, and insulin resistance.

Understanding the specific cellular components and their interactions within white adipose tissue is crucial for elucidating the mechanisms underlying these dysfunctions. The overall aim of our group is to better define the cellular composition of human white adipose tissue at high resolution and to validate the presence of previously uncharacterized cell types, as well as to study their relevance and functions through both in vitro and in vivo approaches. This will help us to comprehend their contributions to the pathophysiology of white adipose tissue in conditions such as inflammation, reduced angiogenesis, and insulin resistance.
