PD Dr. med. habil. Anne Hilgendorff

Group Leader Mechanisms of Neonatal Chronic Lung Disease

“Chronic lung disease is the most prevalent complication following at-risk birth. Our aim is a profound understanding of its pathophysiology to enable  the development of new diagnostic tools and individual treatment strategies.”

Academic career and research areas

Anne Hilgendorff is a physician scientist with a strong clinical background and a longstanding scientific interest in chronic lung disease of the developing and the diseased adult lung. Her establishment and leadership of the AIRR (Attention to Infants @ Respiratory Risks, DRKS00004600) cohort in which preterm infants are deeply phenotyped with the aim to identify disease characteristics using novel approaches, crossfertilized her work to implement and lead the lung repository ‘CPC-M bioArchive’ as a platform of the German Center for Lung Research in Munich.

Her work is integrated in large translational consortia including the National Genome Network (NGFN) and the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) highlighted by her leadership of the double-headed disease area ‘Diffuse Parenchymal Lung Disease’. Her clinical work resulted in the foundation of the Comprehensive Developmental Care Center (CDeCLMU) at the LMU Hospital in Munich that she is leading as a director.
