From Concept to Reality:
The Journey of the Weight Loss Injection
Die Abnehmspritze – von der Idee zum Produkt
The weight loss injection: named “Breakthrough of the Year” by Science Magazine. Used by celebrities for rapid weight loss, even without medical indication. But more importantly, it represents hope for patients and a potential solution to the diabetes and obesity pandemic that looms ahead. How was the active substance discovered? And why does the development of such drugs take so long?
On two evenings, Helmholtz Munich and Kunstkraftwerk Bergson invite you to the Kunstkraftwerk to explore these questions with representatives from research, industry, and politics. Be inspired by the monumental setting of the former Bergson power plant and join engaging discussions on one of the most pressing issues in modern medicine. The events will take place in German.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most promising technologies poised to transform healthcare in the coming years. From delivering more precise diagnoses and personalized therapies to implementing preventive measures and optimizing hospital workflows, the potential applications of AI are vast. But how advanced is this technology today? Will we be able to implement personalized prevention based on individual risk factors in the future? And what ethical and practical challenges must we address to unlock AI's full potential?
In an engaging panel discussion, Dr. Carsten Marr, Director of the Institute of AI for Health at Helmholtz Munich, will share the latest scientific insights on the role of AI in medicine, illustrating how AI algorithms can analyze medical data and support the development of new therapies. Peter Schardt, Chief Technology Officer at Siemens Healthineers, will explore where the industry has already integrated AI successfully and its impact on both doctors and patients. Dr. Rainer Hutka, Amtschef of the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care and Prevention, will discuss the role of Bavarian politics in fostering innovations in the field of AI in medicine and highlight how Bavaria is positioning itself for digital transformation.
Join leading experts from science, politics, and industry as they discuss how AI will shape the future of medicine and healthcare. Be part of the conversation as we look toward the next generation of digital healthcare technologies!

At a time when obesity and diabetes are creating increasingly significant challenges for healthcare systems worldwide, innovative therapies are at the center of heated debates. One of these therapies currently making headlines is the so-called "weight loss injection." But what can this new medical option truly achieve? Is it a breakthrough in the fight against obesity and diabetes, or just another stepping stone? To explore this, we are facilitating a direct exchange between researchers, clinicians, and individuals with lived experience.
Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Matthias Tschöp, CEO of Helmholtz Munich and a world-renowned expert in diabetes research, will present the scientific background and potential of this groundbreaking treatment. Prof. Dr. med. Matthias Blüher, Head of the Obesity Research Group at the University of Leipzig, works with obesity patients daily and will offer an informed overview of the clinical applications and current status of the therapy. A patient will also share a first-hand account of her experience with obesity and the impact of new treatments.
Join us as experts and patients come together to discuss the future of obesity therapy. Engage with us: Can weight loss injections truly mark the end of extreme obesity and diabetes? What are the opportunities and risks? An evening filled with information, discussion, and new perspectives awaits you.
