Advancing Ferroptosis Research
Marcus Conrad has been shaping the field of ferroptosis research for more than 25 years. In cancer research, the targeted application of this iron-dependent mechanism of cell death is considered a particularly promising approach.
Conrad has been unraveling its mechanisms and developing molecules capable of inducing or inhibiting it. His team notably identified Liproxstatine-1, the first pharmacological inhibitor of reference in this field. In 2023, the team reached a new milestone by publishing a series of compounds capable of sensitizing tumors to ferroptosis, opening up unprecedented therapeutic prospects.
About the Fondation ARC Léopold Griffuel Award
For over fifty years, the Fondation ARC Léopold Griffuel Award has honored exceptional researchers and is today among the most prestigious and best-funded awards in cancer research in Europe. They honor outstanding scientists whose work significantly advances the understanding and treatment of cancer. The prize includes two categories - “Fundamental Research” and “Translational and Clinical Research” - each endowed with €200,000.
Further Award Recipients
We congratulate Prof. Andre Nussenzweig, who received the Fondation ARC Léopold Griffuel Award for Fundamental Research; Dr. Raphaël Rodriguez, co-recipient of the Fondation ARC Léopold Griffuel Award for Translational and Clinical Research; Dr. Gaëlle Legube, recipient of the Fondation ARC Oberling-Haguenau Grand Award; and Dr. Valentin Gensbittel, recipient of the Fondation ARC Oberling-Haguenau Thesis Award.
