New board member at the Atemweg Foundation
On January 1, 2023, Prof. Jürgen Behr and Gerolf Schmidl received active support from the field of lung research on the Foundation's Board of Directors of Stiftung Atemweg. Dr. Ali Önder Yildirim, Director of the Instititute of Lung Health and Immunity (LHI) and the Comprehensive Pneumology Center at Helmholtz Zentrum München.
"We are proud and happy to have Dr. Ali Önder Yildirim, an extremely distinguished scientist in the field of lung research, who will do his utmost to support us in our great goal of one day being able to cure lung diseases. I am looking forward to working with him," says Prof. Jürgen Behr, expressing his satisfaction with the addition to the Foundation's Board of Directors.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is now the third most common cause of death worldwide. It literally cuts off the air to those affected. Despite this, public knowledge and awareness of COPD and other lung diseases such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis or cystic fibrosis are even lower than is the case, for example, with cardiovascular diseases. Only through intensive research that reaches patients quickly can we alleviate suffering and remove the horror of chronic lung diseases.
