Great Interest in Free Diabetes Prevention Campaign in Tübingen
Clinical scientists from the IDM in Tübingen raised awareness about the importance of diabetes prevention and the early detection of prediabetes in the city center on June 28, 2024. Numerous people took part in the free education and testing campaign and checked their long-term blood glucose levels (HbA1c), which is an important indicator for the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus.
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide and often remains undetected for years. It is estimated that more than 2 million people in Germany live with undetected diabetes. The preliminary stage, prediabetes, also often goes undetected, although around 20% of the population in Germany is already affected. Without timely intervention, prediabetes can develop into manifest diabetes.
The Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) at the Helmholtz Zentrum Münschen at the University of Tübingen is conducting research into prediabetes and diabetes prevention as part of clinical studies. We are still looking for study participants with an increased risk of diabetes. Further information on the study can be found here.
