MICROBES
The EU funded project Microbes (Microbiome Biobanking (RI) Enabler) focuses on novel approaches for isolating and cultivating microbiota from different environments. In our part of the project we provide operational guidelines for the definition of ecological concepts like “core microbiomes” and “keystone taxa” and their operational identification. Therefore, we are elucidating minimal microbial components of complex environmental samples by applying bioinformatic tools, which combine comparative genomics and network theory to identify “microbial keystone taxa” that might help to prioritize targeted isolation to assemble representative synthetic communities (SynComs).
