Scientific Aims

Understanding environmental effects on health and disease are challenging due to the high complexity of interactions. The Environmental Health Center brings together the expertise and tools of physicians, epidemiologists, molecular and cellular biologists, microbiologists, chemists and environmental scientists to decipher the effects of environmental influences on health and disease in a comprehensive approach. Patients suffering from allergies, asthma and chronic lung diseases are at the center of these activities.

We aim to:

  • Identify, quantify and monitor environmental risk factors to reduce the burden of disease
  • Define key disease mechanisms at the interface of the environment and barrier surfaces to identify novel targets for future therapies
  • Identify the protective environmental exposures and develop novel prevention strategies against asthma, chronic lung diseases, and allergies
  • Translate the knowledge into health policies, novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for better health
