Support for Pollen Monitoring

The Bavarian Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek personally presented a grant of 130,000 euros to Jeroen Buters, Institute for Allergy Research (IAF), on September 21, 2021. With this grant, the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care supports research on the ePIN electronic pollen information network.

The automatic pollen monitoring system supplies the current pollen count at three-hour intervals at eight different locations in Bavaria online. The aim of the grant is to process the measurement data from the eight measuring stations in such a way, that the pollen count at each location in Bavaria is calculated and displayed in real time.

The eight pollen monitors from the network, which was designed by Buters and his team and which was built by the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL, Prof. Dr. Herr and her team), cover the various pollen zones in Bavaria.

Since the pollen count between stations is controlled by certain regularities, Buters and his team will scientifically calculate how the pollen count can be mapped for each location in Bavaria using the existing stations.
