Full House again for Munich Epigenetics Spotlight meeting

The second Munich Epigenetics Spotlight meeting took place at Helmholtz Zentrum Muenchen in Grosshadern on Tuesday 17th October, 2017.  The local half-day meeting brought together epigenetics and chromatin researchers from research institutions in Munich and the surrounding area.

Organised by institute directors Robert Schneider (Institute of Functional Epigenetics) and Maria Elena Torres-Padilla (Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells), together with Abcam, this meeting builds on the success of the 1st meeting held in October 2016.  Schedule once a year, the Spotlight meeting is already becoming a highly anticipated event to unite chromatin and epigenetics researchers in the local area for scientific discussions and networking.

Keynote lectures by Bruno Amati (IFOM-IEO, Milan) and Ana Pombo (MDC, Berlin) were complemented by four short talks selected from abstracts, covering diverse topics and approaches such as computational modelling, model organisms and genomic approaches exploring the mechanisms behind epigenetic regulation and genome architecture.

The afternoon provided an important platform for PhD students and post-docs to present their work to an expert and academically encouraging audience and provided a networking opportunity with the invited and local experts in the field. Post-talk discussions were developed further during the following drinks reception.
