Academic Career
Sabine Steiner earned her medical degree from the Medical University Vienna, Austria in 2000, where she also completed her training in Internal Medicine and Angiology. For her research activity on restenosis and vascular regeneration she received her Venia docendi (habilitation) from the Medical University Vienna in 2006 and held an appointment as Associate Professor at the Division of Angiology since 2012. From 2009-2011 she pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada funded by an Erwin-Schroedinger fellowship of the Austrian Science Fund. During her stay she also successfully completed a Master of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa. In 2013 she joined the interventional team of Prof. Scheinert at the Department of Angiology, Parkkrankenhaus Leipzig and later at the Medical University Leipzig, Germany, where she deepened her endovascular training in the full range of peripheral vascular interventions and intensified her research focus in the field of restenosis. She has a broad scientific background comprising various aspects of vascular medicine (endovascular techniques, epidemiology, angiogenesis, anticoagulation) with a focus on peripheral interventions and clinical trials. In May 2021, she was appointed Head of Applied Vascular Research at HI-MAG to promote translational vascular research and develop new strategies to improve outcome after vascular interventions.
