ILBD/CPC‘s Herbert Schiller about methods to analyze SARS-CoV-2 interactions with our lungs

Herbert Schiller was invited by Nature Immunology to provide his expert view on a recently published landmark study on SARS-CoV-2-specifc hotspots in virus-host interaction networks.

In the News & Views article Schiller and colleagues discuss the novelty and importance of an innovative approach by Stukalov et al, which used various specific proteomic techniques to reveal crucial strategies that SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV employ to hijack cellular pathways in infected cells and thereby modulate the state of infected cells.

Herbert Schiller is currently working together with Andreas Pichlmair (TUM) and Fabian Theis (HMGU), in the framework of a large consortium (CoViPa) funded by the Helmholtz Association, to develop methods for the multi-omic analysis of pneumotropic pandemic virus interactions with human lung tissue. In this project, the proteomic methods used by Pichlmair and colleagues in Stukalov et al will be further developed and integrated with novel single cell genomic analysis of virus infections in primary organotypic model systems of the human lung.
