Outpatient Unit/Translation

The main focus of the CPC outpatient unit is to efficiently translate research findings from bench to bedside and vice versa.

Consequently, in our understanding translation has to be double tracked, observations and findings in the hospitals need to be transferred back to scientists in the lab, have to be experimentally analyzed and thus stimulating new innovative research approaches. A direct personal communication between scientists and clinicians is mandatory to succeed in establishing an efficient and translational research approach to act in the best interest of patients suffering from lung diseases. At the CPC clinicians and scientist cooperate closely and also work spatially together as the CPC comprises three floors dedicated to respiratory medicine with an outpatient unit on the ground floor and experimental research units on the first and second floor.

The partners within the CPC jointly operate an outpatient unit dedicated to coordinate studies in patients with lung diseases. Essential part in those studies is the clinical and molecular phenotyping of patient cohorts with different lung diseases (such as COPD, Asthma, interstitial lung disease, BPD, lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer). Investigations include special criteria of the clinical development of a disease, expression of biomarkers, response to therapies, or complications. The clinical and molecular phenotyping will be performed in the specialized clinics at the Munich University Hospital or the Asklepios Fachkliniken. In this context biomaterials from patients will be collected and analysed in the research units at the CPC and the Institute of Lung biology and disease. 

The CPCs aims to establish clinically and molecularly phenotyped patient cohorts that are assessed using conventional parameters and innovative biomarkers. The results out of those studies will contribute to a better patient care.
