Deputy Director
Dr. Martin Mück-Häusl
“Genetic engineering is my playground!”
Group Leader of the research group Genetic Perturbations and Systems (upcoming)
Academic Career and Research Areas
Martin holds a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and completed his PhD in 2011 at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute of Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich, where he focused on advanced genetic engineering methods for viral vector development in the context of gene‑therapeutic applications.
After joining the Institute of Virology at Helmholtz Munich in 2012, he focused on modulating genetic factors and engineering complex systems in the context of vaccination as well as experimental cell culture and animal models. Starting in 2018 at the Institute of Regenerative Biology and Medicine (IRBM) as a Senior Scientist, he worked under Dr. Adrian Fischer, developing genetic tools for investigating the extracellular matrix and mechanistic analyses of mesothelial cells in the context of lung fibrosis.
In 2024, he was recruited by Prof. Dr. Herbert Schiller as Deputy Director of the Research Unit of Precision Regenerative Medicine (PRM), focusing his research on mechanistic investigations of gene programs identified through LLM‑assisted statistical analysis of large‑scale, multi‑omics datasets from mouse models and human precision‑cut lung slices (PCLS) in the context of lung fibrosis and lung aging.
