Mission and Goals

The mission of the Stem Cell Center is to understand key mechanisms of disease states in order to alleviate tissue dysfunction and utilize stem cell regulation and cellular plasticity to replace degenerated cells and repair tissue function.

It pursues the following key goals to:

  1. Reveal the intrinsic and extrinsic regulators of stem cell self-renewal and differentiation.
  2. Uncover mechanisms determining cell fate and function to improve function in disease.
  3. Develop epigenetic targeting approaches to engineer cellular identity and plasticity.
  4. Develop novel in vitro and in vivo models to investigate the molecular basis of stem cell self-renewal, differentiation, and repair.
  5. Identify molecular pathways with cell protective roles.
  6. Pioneer cellular replacement therapies in in vivo models.
