Assessment of formation of deposits from evaporation of heating oils in porous media (DGMK)

Combustion plants using heating oil with different proportions of renewable and biogenic fuels often exhibit the phenomenon of solid deposit formation, which leads to an impairment of their functionality. For a better understanding of the mechanisms of the underlying processes and the subsequent development of remediation strategies, an in-depth analysis of the evaporation products and the chemical species of the deposits is required. These issues will be addressed through comprehensive analyses of the fuels using thermal analysis coupled with fast gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, as well as high-resolution mass spectrometry methods. The deposits will be provided by project partner OWI in Aachen, Germany.
