Dr. Hans-Ulrich “Uli” Stahl

Group Leader Biochemical and Medical Sensors

For me being able to do research at IBMI is like a dream come true: collaborating with immensely gifted people from different backgrounds is very stimulating. At IBMI we are encouraged to try out our ideas and put them into practice. A suprizing discovery for me was: It is ok not to know everything. Yet we all learn something new every day. I love it!

CV

Before joining IBMI in July 2022 Uli spent 22 years in automotive R&D: At BMW he worked in E/E systems integration, automated driving, quality management and hydrogen storage. He did his Master degree at the University of Texas at Austin, where he built an atomic force microscope and integrated it into a scanning electron microscope. He received his Dr. rer. nat. from Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. During his doctorate he did fundamental research as well as applied research. As fundamental research he used scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate the geometric structure of molecular layers of 1,4,5,8-NTCDA on Ag(111) surfaces. As applied research he used laser modulated scanning tunneling spectroscopy to investigate the microscopic electrical properties of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin film solar cells.

Uli is a Six Sigma Black Belt. He has 26 patents.

In his private life Uli is happily married with two daughters (b. 2002/2006). He likes to be outdoors (hiking, cycling, swimming) and is a radio amateur (call sign: DM5US).
