Abdominal Fat Plays an Important Role in the Remission of Prediabetes
Prediabetes is a precursor to type 2 diabetes with an increased risk of heart attacks, kidney and eye diseases, and various types of cancer. In Germany, there is no approved medication for prediabetes. Scientists from the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) at Helmholtz Munich have identified mechanisms that can bring prediabetes into remission, which is a state with normal range blood sugar levels. Prediabetes remission protects against type 2 diabetes and is associated with better kidney and vascular function in the long term.
