We work at the interface between biology and applied computer sciences. Our mission is to develop efficient data analysis pipelines to gain novel insights from large phenotyping data sets.

In line with the Institute’s mission, Elida focusses on gaining new insights from large mouse phenotyping data sets, mainly generated in the GMC and the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) to better understand the relationship between genotype, phenotype and environment and to identify mouse models for human disease. The steadily growing set of well-curated mouse phenotype data, collected since 2001 according to strict and stable SOPs, provides a rich source of data that can be interlinked with human data for translational projects. She is committed to stringent research data management according to FAIR principles, which enables fast and flexible data selection and processing in internal and collaboration projects.

Elida is excited to head a team that covers a wide range of scientific disciplines and has strong computational skills. In joint projects, she and her team work closely with the GMC, whose expert knowledge is invaluable in properly understanding the data and interpreting the results.

Professional Background

Elida joined Helmholtz Munich in 2002 as a graduate mathematician. She finished her diploma studies at both the West University in Timisoara (Romania) and the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. At the Institute of Experimental Genetics (IEG), she initially focused on the development of software applications for the management and analysis of mouse phenotyping data. Before moving to the bioinformatics group of the German Mouse Clinic (GMC) at the same institute in 2013, she worked on deterministic modelling of the Delta/Notch regulatory network during somitogenesis and on simulating molecular biological processes during the formation of the pancreatic duct in the embryonic development of the pancreas, both based on systems of differential equations. Since August 2021, Elida has been heading the Applied Computational Group at the IEG.
