BR 'Health': 'Diabetes · Fight Against Diabetes' with DZD Researchers
The TV program BR Gesundheit ('Health') on October 10 was dedicated to the topic "Diabetes - Fight Against Diabetes". In the various reports, researchers of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) were interviewed as experts. For example, on type 1 diabetes and the prevention of diabetes or remission of prediabetes. The program is available online.
Prof. Anette-Gabriele Ziegler, Director of the Institute of Diabetes Research at the DZD partner Helmholtz Munich, explains the current state of knowledge on the autoimmune disease type 1 diabetes. Her goal is a world without type 1. On their way, she and her team have already achieved a number of milestones, from which the children and young people who were accompanied for this TV report also benefit.
To prevent type 2 diabetes, affected people can do more themselves. For some, a change in lifestyle helps - and ideally already during the preliminary stage of type 2 diabetes, the so-called prediabetes. Prof. Andreas BIrkenfeld, scientific director of the Helmholtz Munich Institute for Diabetes and Metabolism Research at Tübingen University Hospital, also a partner in the DZD, presents the latest research results on remission of prediabetes.
Furthermore, the program reports on the new compounds semaglutide and tirzepatide and the great attention for the so-called "weight loss injection". The opportunities and risks of these new therapies are examined from a scientific perspective.
"Gesundheit: Diabetes · Kampf gegen die Zuckerkrankheit" will be repeated on ARD Alpha on October 14 at 6:30 p.m.
The broadcasts are available on the website and in the BR media library.
