Dr. Melanie Waldenberger holds both a Diploma in Biology and a Master’s in Public Health. In 2009 she received her doctorate in natural sciences from the Technical University of Munich. She then worked as a postdoc at the Research Unit Molecular Epidemiology, Institute for Epidemiology, Helmholtz Zentrum München. Since 2012 she has headed her own research group "Complex Diseases". 

The research of Melanie focuses on the molecular analysis of complex diseases – such as cardiovascular and metabolic conditions – and their intermediate phenotypes. Melanie has particular experience in the conduct of high-throughput genotyping and genome-wide methylation projects. The group uses epidemiological methods to study the complex interplay between molecular mechanisms and environmental factors in the context of the onset and progression of disease.
