Targeted Metabolomics
Metabolomic ServiceTargeted metabolomics describes the simultaneous measurement of a pre-selected set of metabolites. Therefore, assays are developed that comprise metabolites of one or more metabolic pathways of interest, i.e., there must be a priori knowledge about the object of investigation (e.g. a disease). Targeted metabolomics yields absolute quantification levels (concentrations) and can be used for biomarker discovery/validation and kinetic pathway analyses. We are using Biocrates® Assays and are the Certified Biocrates® Service Provider.
We use the iLab Core Management system to book services by internal and external users.

We offer the following assays for metabolite quantification:
This assay allows the determination of 630 metabolites from 26 biochemical classes using an assay kit from Biocrates® Life Sciences AG. Liquid handling is done on a Hamilton ML start liquid handling robot. The assay is based on LC-MS separation and detection (Agilent UHPLC, Sciex QTrap 5500) and flow injection analysis.
- Types of samples measured: plasma, serum, stool, cells
- Amount of sample requested: plasma: 50 µl minimum, stool: 200 mg
- Species tested: human and mouse
- Type of data supplied: csv/xlsx-files containing concentration data in µmol/l or µmol/g of the metabolites determined.
In the table below, biochemical classes and their number of metabolites measured applying the MxP® Quant 500 kit are shown:
