Metabolite levels integrate information from both endogenous (genetic) and exogenous (nutrition, medication, environment) origins. The parallel (semi-) quantitative acquisition of a large set of metabolites (Metabolomics) offers a direct read-out of the biochemical status of cells and biological systems.

Proteomics technologies enable the analysis of the entire protein repertoire (the proteome) of a cell, tissue, or organism at the time of sampling. Proteomics data have profoundly added to our understanding of diseases processes, drug-target interactions and helped to identify many predictive and diagnostic biomarkers.

Our Services

Proximity extension assays (Olink®) enable targeted detection and quantification of proteins in highly multiplexed formats. Helmholtz Munich hosts the first Core Facility certified for Olink® technology in Germany.

Organization and participation in national and international ring trials.

As part of the CLINSPECT-M consortium, which aims at translating MS-based assays into the clinic in the area of neuro diseases, and as leader of the corresponding workpackage 5 – “Quality Assurance and Standardization” – we organize round robin studies to set the foundation for the development of standardized start-to-finish and fit-for-purpose workflows for clinical specimen.

Dr. Stefanie Hauck

After training in Biology at the Universities Regensburg and LMU Munich, I have adopted early on mass spectrometry as enabling technology for my research in neuroscience, where I received my PhD working in signal transduction and neuroprotection in the retina. I expanded my focus on proteomics, and recently metabolomics, heading the Research Unit Protein Science at Helmholtz Munich since 2016, and merged proteomics and metabolomics under the roof of the recently founded CF-MPC.
