Pamela Nono Nankam receives Science Award of the Lipedema Society
At this year’s Conference of the Lipedema Society (LipödemGesellschaft e. V.) HI-MAG PostDoc Pamela Nono Nankam received the society’s Science Award. The Annual Conference was held from October 27th and 28th, 2023 in the city hall of Flörsheim/Main.
The Lipedema Society is an interdisciplinary organization established on January 1, 2021. Its primary objective is to represent the needs of the patients and physicians in an interdisciplinary network to have a positive impact on care. Regular training and specialized conferences are conducted to identify and represent the needs of all stakeholders, including providers and practitioners, in discussions.
Pamela Nono Nankam is currently working on projects related to a better understanding of lipedema disease mechanisms with a focus of adipose tissue function characterization and identification of circulating disease biomarkers. In parallel, Pamela played an important role in developing a comprehensive meta-analysis of publicly available and newly generated single-cell, single-nucleus, and spatial transcriptomic results from human subcutaneous, omental, and perivascular WAT.
The Science Award of the Lipedema Society, sponsored by the HumanMed AG, aims to support excellent scientific work in the field of lipedema research or provide funding for excellent planned research projects. It has been awarded for the first time this year.
Pamela Nono Nankam is a biologist and a successful PostDoc in the research group “Clinical Obesity Research” of Matthias Blüher at the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (HI-MAG).
She completed her PhD at the University of Capetown and Leipzig University, focusing on the mechanisms by which adipose tissue contributes to improved metabolic health in response to lifestyle interventions such as exercise training in women with obesity.
