Institute of Biochemical Plant Pathology (BIOP)
The Institute of Biochemical Plant Pathology investigated plant defense mechanisms, growth, and fitness in response to environmental influences, including the emerging impacts of climate change, with a particular focus on the molecular response mechanisms to biotic and abiotic factors.
The institute, headed by Professor Jörg Durner, was in operation until March 31, 2023.

Research
A core research focus at BIOP was figuring out the molecular mechanisms of signal transduction cascades, especially looking at the role of redox signals like nitric oxide (NO). The institute's objectives included developing new approaches for sustainable agriculture and the biotechnological utilization of plants, as well as safeguarding the role of plants in human nutrition and health.
Research Groups:
• Epigenetics and climate change
• Redox-signaling and chromatin modulation
• Allergens in ecosystems
• Molecular plant physiology
• Inducible resistance signaling
• Project Group Plant Phenotyping DPPN (German Plant Phenotyping Network)
