Science You Can See and Feel
Guided by the theme “Art Meets Science”, the works were created through months of collaboration between artists and scientists, using laboratory materials, microscopy, and scientific knowledge. “In Formation” reveals aspects of scientific research that usually remain hidden behind data and results.
Bringing Science Closer to Society
The project was initiated by Prof. Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla, Director of the Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells (IES) at Helmholtz Munich, Professor at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and recipient of the 2025 Leibniz Prize, Germany’s highest scientific honor. True to her motto, “Science Knows No Boundaries,” she is committed to bringing research closer to society.
“Both ask questions – about life, emotions, and ideas. Both delve deeply, observe, and search for a way to express what they have found. In one case, that expression is logical, factual, and structured; in the other, it is personal, embedded in emotion, and immersive,” Torres-Padilla says about the connection between science and art.
Part of the RepliFate Final Conference
“In Formation” was developed through the Artist-in-Residence program of RepliFate, the European doctoral network on DNA replication in cancer research coordinated by Helmholtz Munich. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with the network’s final conference and International Doctoral School. It is curated by Claudia Schnugg.
