Background

After studying biology at the University of Regensburg and Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, I became fascinated by the broad impact mass spectrometry-based proteomics has on driving biological knowledge. I did my PhD in neurosciences, tackling glial-derived neuroprotection in the context of retinal degeneration, and went on to adapt proteomic profiling to identify biological systems and their specific disease-related disorders on a systemic level and thus contribute to a molecular understanding of diseases. I became head of the Research Unit Protein Science at Helmholtz Munich in 2016 and integrated the LC-MSMS-based metabolomics platform in 2021 into the merged Metabolomics and Proteomics Core at Helmholtz Munich.
