Wolfgang Kreyling (formerly of the Institute of Inhalation Biology and the Institute of Epidemiology) has received the 2026 Fuchs Memorial Award. Günter Oberdörster of the University of Rochester and Christopher M. Sorensen of Kansas State University were also honoured with this internationally renowned award for outstanding contributions to aerosol science and technology.
Wolfgang Kreyling and Günter Oberdörster share a decades-long German-American research collaboration on the health effects of inhaled particles. Flemming Cassee, who jointly nominated them for the award, particularly highlights their contributions to aerosol dosimetry in the lung, the transport of inhaled particles from the lungs to other organs, and particle-related health effects.
Aerosol physicist Christopher M. Sorensen, who also received the award, is particularly well known for his research on particle aggregates and their light scattering.
The Fuchs Memorial Award is presented every four years for outstanding research achievements in the field of aerosol science and technology. The 2026 award ceremony took place during the 12th International Aerosol Conference in Xi’an, China.
We warmly congratulate Wolfgang Kreyling on receiving this prestigious international award!
