Project

Maxi is interested in adipose tissue biology and metabolic disease, with an emphasis on obesity and diabetes. She combines wet-lab techniques, functional assays and downstream data analysis with bioinformatics, transcriptomics and single-cell/-nuclei sequencing approaches to study cellular and functional heterogeneity in human adipose tissue. Maxi’s PhD project focuses on adipose stromal and progenitor cells (ASPCs), a heterogenous and understudied cell population. To date, the functional roles of ASPC subclusters and their contributions to diseases states remain incompletely defined. Her goal is to better                                                                                                                             understand tissue homeostasis, remodeling, and                                                                                                                   the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic                                                                                                                   dysfunction.
