Scientific Career & Research Areas

Dr. rer. nat. Florian Haupt studied Biology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich in Germany and received his Diploma (2004) and PhD (2011). After several research visits abroad, he started as postdoctoral researcher and study coordinator at the Institute of Diabetes Research at Helmholtz Munich in 2012. In 2017, he became group leader for IT and logistics, focused on the setup and administration of the GPPAD platform software systems.

Since 2022, he leads the research area “Digital networking for type 1 diabetes research”.

Florian Haupt and his team at the Institute of Diabetes Research have implemented several software systems and logistic workflows to conduct large multinational and multisite screening studies for genetic risk for type 1 diabetes (GPPAD, Freder1k study) and pre type 1 diabetes (Fr1da study). The teams’ goal is to further digitalize and automatize the processes in type 1 diabetes research with multinational partners.
