Heat Action Day 2025 – Raising Awareness of Health Risks from Heat
Under the motto “Heat Protection for All,” a broad alliance of healthcare actors and other organizations – including Helmholtz Munich – is drawing attention to the health risks posed by high temperatures on the occasion of Heat Action Day.
According to recent analyses, Germany experienced about twice as many extreme heat days over the past twelve months as it would have in a scenario without the influence of climate change.
The joint initiative of the German Medical Association, the German Alliance on Climate Change and Health (KLUG), AWO Federal Association, German Hospital Federation, German Nursing Council, National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds, and the Climate Alliance Germany has been joined by 87 institutions and associations (https://hitzeaktionstag.de/partner). Helmholtz Munich also supports the initiative, aiming to use scientific insights to better understand the health impacts of heat and to help develop evidence-based measures to protect the population.
Awareness of the health consequences of heat and effective protective measures, especially for particularly vulnerable groups, is still limited in parts of the population and various sectors of society. Heat Action Day aims to increase public awareness and promote preventive action.
