Lung Patient Forum – A Great Success

Events, Public Engagement,

On April 8, 2025, more than 330 individuals affected by lung diseases – as well as their families – participated in the online Lung Patient Forum. The event offered attendees the opportunity to submit questions directly to leading pulmonary experts, many of which were answered live during the two-hour session.

The forum was organized by the Lung Information Service (Lungeninformationsdienst) at Helmholtz Munich, in collaboration with the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), the German Lung Day, and the German Respiratory Society (DGP). It served as the central public outreach event ahead of the 65th DGP Congress, taking place in Leipzig from April 9 to 12, 2025.

The session was moderated by Prof. Dirk Koschel, President of this year’s DGP Congress.

A panel of distinguished specialists responded to questions on a broad range of lung-related topics:

  • Prof. Bianca Schaub on allergies and asthma in children and adolescents
  • Prof. Marek Lommatzsch on asthma in adults
  • Prof. Klaus F. Rabe on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Prof. Jessica Rademacher on respiratory infections
  • Prof. Jürgen Behr on pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and other interstitial lung diseases
  • Prof. H. Ardeschir Ghofrani on pulmonary hypertension
  • Prof. W. Schütte on lung cancer

The strong turnout and highly positive feedback underscore the importance and effectiveness of the interactive format "Patients Ask – Experts Answer" in delivering clear and accessible health information.

A written summary of selected questions and answers will be published in the coming days on the website of the Lung Information Service.
