Clinical Trial Unit

HI-MAG combines innovative research approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of obesity and other metabolic and vascular diseases with the comprehensive infrastructure of Leipzig University Medicine. The voluntary provision of tissue samples and data by study participants, as well as their participation in further scientific studies, enables a close link between research and clinical therapy in close cooperation with the Medical Faculty of the Leipzig University and the University of Leipzig Medical Center.

Method Spectrum

Determination of Anthropmetric Measurements

The determination of anthropmetric measurements, e. g. B. body weight, height and girth, enables a basic characterization of the person.

Determination of Blood and Urine Levels

Blood and urine values provide information about the state of health. Indications of a possible disease and disease risks as well as therapy effects can in this way be monitored.

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA measurement)

Bioelectrical impedance analysis is an electrical resistance measurement of the human body and allows the proportions of muscle and fat tissue in the human body to be estimated, as well as the body fat content.

Blood Pressure Measurement

When measuring blood pressure, the pressure in the arteries is measured to determine the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. This provides an indication of possible hypertension and the associated risk of cardiovascular disease.

Digital Photoplethysmography

This method can be used to determine the functionality of the venous valves, e.g. in the case of varicose veins.

Electrocardiography (ECG)

In this measurement, the sum of the electrical activity of all heart muscle fibres is displayed graphically. This allows a variety of conclusions to be drawn about heart function.

Endothelial measurement

The endothelial measurement is used to assess arterial stiffness and provides information on endothelial function.

Dietary Protocols

With the help of dietyry protocols, eating behaviour at home can be recorded qualitatively and quantitatively and macro and micro nutrients of the food consumed can be quantified using software.

Questionnaires on Eating Behaviour

Different aspects of eating behaviour such as feelings of hunger, conscious restriction of food intake, intuitive eating and pathological eating behaviour are recorded using a battery of tests with various questionnaires on eating behaviour.

Vascular Ultrasound

This method can be used to detect organic and functional vascular changes in both the arterial and venous areas.

Odor Test

The sense of smell is measured qualitatively using various odor samples.

Taste Test

The sense of taste is measured qualitatively and quantitatively using various taste strips.

Hyperspectral Imaging

This method is used to assess tissue oxygen saturation and provides information on microcirculation.

Indirect Calorimetry

Indirect calorimetry is a method of measuring the oxygen consumption of an organism. This technique is used to determine the organism's energy metabolism.

Physical Activity

Acceleration sensors in the form of a wristband are used to measure physical activity throughout the day.

Laser Speckle Contrast Analysis

This method is used to analyze the microcirculation.

Measurement of the Ankle-Arm Index

This measurement is a screening method for the presence of peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAD).

Metabolic Function Tests

Oral glucose tolerance test, insulin clamp test: These tests measure the body's insulin sensitivity and insulin response to carbohydrates.

Optical Pulse Oscillography

This method allows the blood flow in the finger and toe arteries to be assessed.

Pulsewave Analysis

Pulse wave analysis is used to assess arterial stiffness and provides information on endothelial function.

Snack-Food-Taste-Test

The snack-food-taste-test is used to qualitatively and quantitatively record the intake of certain foods in an already saturated state.

Standardized Test Meal

The standardized test meal is used to qualitatively and quantitatively record the calorie intake of certain foods with the possibility of differentiating between the various macronutrients in a hungry state.

Veno-Occlusive Plethysmography

This method is used to measure the outflow of venous blood and provides information about any obstacles to outflow, e.g. after a thrombosis.
