IDM,

The annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) took place this year in Madrid from September 9 to 13, 2024. This year’s scientific program included over 1200 talks and presentations on the latest findings in diabetes research by leading experts in the field. We congratulate Lorenzo Semeia from the IDM on receiving the ‘Best Abstract’ award at the conference.

Scientists from clinical and basic research presented recent highlights on diabetes and prediabetes research from the IDM.

· Prof. Birkenfeld, Director of the IDM, chaired three sessions and held a talk titled "New Insights into the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes: Remission of Prediabetes in PLIS and DPP – The European-American Perspective."

· Dr. Simon Dreher presented his study results in his presentation about "Sex-Specific Differences of Human Skeletal Muscle: A Multi-Omics Exercise Study."

· Dr. Lorza Gil held a presentation on the "Impact of GLP-1/GIP Receptor Signaling on Human Pancreatic Adipose Tissue Organoids."

· Konstantinos Kantartzisspoke on the topic "Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease, but Not Visceral Adiposity, is a Strong and Independent Determinant of Increased Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 Levels in Humans."

The EASD continues to be an excellent forum for us to inform ourselves about relevant topics on an international stage and to exchange ideas with outstanding international scientists.
