Helmholtz Munich Receives "Shaping Diversity" Certificate

Public Engagement Awards & Grants

Helmholtz Munich has been awarded the "Shaping Diversity" certificate by the Stifterverband. This recognition honors the research institution's commitment to embracing diversity as an opportunity and leveraging it for organizational development.

Diversity as a Driver of Innovation

The Stifterverband’s "Shaping Diversity" audit has been supporting universities and research institutions for over ten years in developing and implementing tailored diversity strategies. Alongside eight universities, Helmholtz Munich received the certificate this year.

Helmholtz Munich actively promotes equal opportunities and diversity among employees. Whether administrative staff, or scientists from diverse backgrounds, the institution fosters inclusivity to enhance innovation and excellence.

A 1,5-Year Development Process

Over the course of about 1.5 years, Helmholtz Munich has significantly enhanced its approach to diversity. This process has focused on structural measures and transparent processes, as well as fostering cross-departmental collaboration and a culture of appreciative leadership.

"Diverse perspectives are a key factor for excellence and success in any field. I am personally convinced that fostering an inclusive environment is essential for groundbreaking research and cutting-edge innovation,” states Prof. Matthias Tschöp, CEO and Scientific Director at Helmholtz Munich.

A Sustainable Strategy for Diversity

The Stifterverband views the diversity audit as a strategic tool that guides universities and research institutions in their development - without rigid guidelines but with targeted support from auditors. More than 70 universities and four research institutions have already successfully completed the process. By awarding the certificate, the Stifterverband confirms that Helmholtz Munich has undergone a profound transformation and established a sustainable strategy for greater diversity.
