Maria Keller receives the 2024 Research Prize of the German Obesity Society

Dr Maria Keller, project leader at the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (HI-MAG) of Helmholtz Munich in Leipzig, has been awarded this year's research prize of the German Obesity Society (DAG) for her work in the field of obesity research. She shares the prize with Dr Tim Hollstein from the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein.

The prize aims to particularly support young scientists with outstanding achievements. The award ceremony took place during the Obesity Congress from 16-18 October 2024 in Cologne. 

Dr Maria Keller studied ecotrophology and molecular nutritional sciences at the Universities of Kiel and Vienna and completed her doctorate in 2015 on the topic of ‘Genetics and epigenetics of obesity and associated phenotypes’ at the University of Leipzig.  Since May 2020, she has been working as a scientist and independent project leader in Prof. Matthias Blüher's Clinical Obesity Research group, where she investigates epigenetic changes and their consequences in connection with the development and treatment of obesity.
