Yurong Cheng from IDM selected for Helmholtz Munich’s High Potentials Program
The third cohort of the High Potentials Program (HPP) at Helmholtz Munich launched their structured training journey this April. This competitive two-year program supports early-career postdoctoral researchers in developing the skills and experience needed for future leadership roles in science.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Yurong Cheng, postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM), has been selected as a Fellow in the third cohort (2025–2027) of Helmholtz Munich’s High Potentials Program (HPP).
This year’s cohort includes 13 exceptional postdoctoral researchers from across Helmholtz Munich, each contributing their unique expertise to this interdisciplinary initiative.
The High Potentials Program is a structured career development program tailored to support postdocs on their path to scientific leadership. It combines in-person workshops, online modules, and blended learning formats. Core components include group and individual training, annual retreats, peer group exchange, and networking opportunities.
Key topics range from career planning, leadership, and team management to third-party funding, communication, mentoring, and outreach. Fellows also take on active roles in the scientific community, such as moderating the ENABLE Seminar Series.
We congratulate Yurong on this outstanding achievement and wish her every success in the program.

Looking Ahead:
While the third cohort begins their training, the first HPP Fellows are completing the program this spring. The next call for applications is planned for autumn 2025. More information on eligibility and application details can be found on the Application Website.
